At Budgey, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal and financial information when you use our budgeting services. We are committed to transparency and giving you control over your data.

Your Data is Private by Default

All your financial data in Budgey is private by default. We believe your financial information belongs to you and you alone. Here are our core privacy principles:

• Your budgets, transactions, and notes are only visible to you unless you choose to share them
• We never sell your data to third parties
• We never share your data with third parties for marketing purposes
• You choose what to share and with whom
• Your financial information is yours

BaoBot AI Assistant

BaoBot is Budgey's AI-powered assistant that helps you manage your budget. Here's how we handle your data when you use BaoBot:

• Secure processing: Your messages are sent securely to a private third-party AI provider to generate responses
• No AI training: Your conversations are not used to train AI models
• Chat history: Your BaoBot chat history is stored locally on your device; we do not retain full conversation transcripts on our servers
• Personalized memory: To give you more helpful, personalized assistance, BaoBot may extract and securely store durable “memories” — key facts and preferences you share (for example, your goals or budgeting style). These memories are stored on our servers, associated with your account, and used only to personalize your experience
• Your control: BaoBot's stored memories are deleted when you delete your account, and you can request that we clear them at any time

When you interact with BaoBot, your messages are transmitted securely to generate helpful responses in real time. We do not retain your full conversation transcripts on our servers, though we may store the durable memories described above to personalize your experience.

Budget Sharing

Budgey allows you to optionally share budgets with others. Here's how sharing works:

• Always opt-in: Sharing is never automatic—your data is private by default
• You're in control: You invite specific people via email to access your budget
• Revocable access: You can revoke access at any time
• Shared visibility: Users you share with can view and contribute to the budget

Shared Notes (Budget Period Notes)

You can add notes to your budget periods to track context and decisions. Here's how we protect your notes:

• Notes within shared budgets are visible only to users with access to that budget
• Notes are not publicly accessible
• Note content is encrypted in transit

Data Collection

Budgey collects only the information required to provide you with our budgeting services. This includes:

• Account information (email address, name)
• Your budgeting data (budgets, categories, transactions)
• Bank and card account and transaction data, when you choose to connect a financial account via Plaid
• Preferences you set within the app
• Budget period notes you create

We do not sell, share, or distribute your data to third parties for marketing or any other purposes outside of providing our core services.

Data Security

We utilize industry-standard security measures to ensure that your data remains safe and secure. Our systems are designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or alteration. We regularly update and audit our security protocols to stay ahead of potential threats.

Your data is encrypted both in transit and at rest. Access to your data is strictly controlled, and we only access your data to troubleshoot issues, assist with support requests, or address technical problems as per your consent.

Third-Party Services

Budgey uses carefully selected third-party services to provide our features. We only share data as necessary to operate these services:

• Plaid: For connecting your bank or card to import transactions. When you choose to link a financial account, Plaid securely accesses transaction and account information from your financial institution on your behalf, in accordance with Plaid's End User Privacy Policy. Budgey never receives or stores your bank login credentials, and we store your Plaid access token encrypted. Transaction data we import is used only to populate your budget. You can disconnect a bank at any time, which revokes access and deletes the connection.
• AI Provider: For BaoBot chat processing and categorizing imported transactions (messages and transaction details processed in real-time, not used to train models)
• Stripe: For secure payment processing (we do not store your payment card details)
• Resend: For transactional emails (password resets, sharing invitations)
• Expo: For push notifications on mobile devices

These services are bound by their own privacy policies and we only share the minimum data required to provide the relevant functionality.

Data Retention & Disposal

We retain your data only as long as it is necessary to provide our services and comply with legal requirements, and we dispose of it securely when it is no longer needed. Specifically:

• Your account and budgeting data is retained while your account is active
• You can disconnect a linked bank or card at any time. When you do, we revoke Budgey's access at Plaid and permanently delete the stored (encrypted) access token and the associated connection from our systems
• You can request deletion of your account at any time. On account deletion we revoke any remaining Plaid connections at Plaid and permanently delete your account and its associated data (budgets, transactions, imported financial data, and BaoBot memories) from our systems, promptly and without undue delay
• Deleted data is removed from our active systems and ages out of routine encrypted backups on our provider's standard backup schedule; we do not keep separate archival copies
• We may retain limited records where required for legal, regulatory, or fraud-prevention purposes

Your Rights & Control

You have complete control over your data. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:

• Right to access: Request a copy of your personal data
• Right to rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Right to deletion: Request deletion of your personal data
• Right to portability: Receive your data in a portable format
• Right to withdraw consent: Revoke permissions at any time

You can review, modify, or delete your information within the app. You can also revoke shared access to your budgets at any time. To exercise any of these rights or request a full data export or deletion, please contact us at support@budgeyapp.com.
