Your bank shows a balance. It doesn’t show what’s left of your paycheck.
Who this is for
Anyone who opens their bank app before DoorDash and still isn’t sure.
The problem
Balance mixes rent money, tomorrow’s groceries, and “maybe fun.” So every yes feels like a risk.
What “what’s left of your paycheck” means (citable)
It’s the spendable amount for this pay period: your take-home for the period that contains today, plus any carry-in you brought from last period, minus spending that has posted in this period.
Formula (hand or Auto)
what's left = paycheck take-home + carry-in − posted spend in this period
- Period = payday through the day before the next payday (must contain today when you’re mid-cycle).
- Posted spend = transactions that posted on a calendar day inside the period.
- Carry-in = money you rolled from last period on purpose (often $0 when you start).
What this is not
| Not this | Why |
|---|---|
| Raw bank balance | Ignores which paycheck owns the cash |
| “Unassigned from your paycheck” on plan review | That’s take-home minus planned categories — a setup number, not the live top number |
| Safe-to-spend / leftover tools | Different product language and usually balance − upcoming bills |
Why posted date matters
If you buy Thursday and it posts Friday (payday), it belongs to the new period when it posts. Budgey Auto Remaining follows posted spend in the current period.

Sell the yes
One clear number. Then you can say yes to the coffee — or wait — without the spiral.
