A three-paycheck month is a calendar month with three biweekly paydays. Biweekly pay produces 26 paydays a year (27 in some years), so two months, sometimes three, contain a third payday.

How to find your three-paycheck months
- Pick how often you are paid: every week, every two weeks, twice a month, or once a month.
- Enter any recent payday. The calendar starts on the most recent Friday.
- Leave the holiday shift on unless your employer pays the calendar date anyway.
- Read the months with an extra paycheck, then add the dates to your calendar.
How many three-paycheck months are in 2027?
It depends on your payday. The 2027 table lists all 14 biweekly cycles. A Friday January 8, 2027 cycle has three paychecks in April and October, and 26 paydays that year.
How many paychecks are left in 2026?
Enter a payday above. The count is every payday on that schedule still ahead in 2026, including today when today is a payday. The 2026 table lists each cycle.
Why do some people get 27 paychecks in 2026?
A Friday January 2, 2026 biweekly cycle has 26 paydays if you ignore holidays. January and July each have three. January 1, 2027 is a Friday and a Federal Reserve bank holiday. The holiday shift moves that payday to Thursday, December 31, 2026. That is 27 paydays, and December is a three-paycheck month too. Check your employer's payroll calendar.
Do semi-monthly paychecks ever have a third check?
No. Twice a month is 24 paydays a year, two per month. Monthly pay is 12. Weekly pay can have five-paycheck months, and some years have 53 paydays.
How the dates are counted
Paydays step every 7 or 14 days from the payday you enter. The count uses the calendar date, not a time zone offset. The holiday shift uses Federal Reserve bank holidays for 2025 through 2029. A Saturday holiday is not observed by the Fed. A Sunday holiday is observed on Monday. If the payday is a holiday or a weekend, it moves to the business day before. Check your employer's payroll calendar.
