Frequently asked questions

What is the easiest way to start budgeting?+

Start with one number — what you have left until your next paycheck — and about eight spending categories. Log what you spend the day you spend it, and check that number before unplanned purchases. In Budgey, BaoBot builds this setup with you in about ten minutes, free, on iOS, Android, or the web.

Do these guides only apply to Budgey?+

The mechanics reference Budgey, but the methods — paycheck-based budgeting, envelope rollover, weekly reviews, couples ground rules — are app-agnostic budgeting practice. If you use them in another app, they will still serve you well. (We would love to show you how much easier they are here, though.)

Are the guides up to date?+

Yes — every guide is reviewed against the current app, and this page notes when they were last updated (July 2026). If something looks different from your screen, tell us at support@budgeyapp.com and we will fix the guide.

I am switching from another budgeting app — where do I start?+

Head to our switch guides (budgeyapp.com/switch) for app-specific export steps from YNAB, Mint, Monarch, and others, then come back to "How to start budgeting with Budgey" and "How to budget by paycheck" to settle in.
