Getting started

Get the most out of Budgey on web and mobile

Your phone is for capturing money as it moves. The web app is for thinking. Here is the workflow that uses each for what it is best at.

Budgey is one budget that lives on your phone and the big screen — iOS, Android, and budgeyapp.com on any browser, all in sync, all included in every plan. But "available everywhere" is not the same as "used well everywhere."

The people who stick with budgeting tend to settle into the same split: the phone handles capture (logging spending the moment it happens), and the web app handles planning (reviewing periods, rebalancing categories, reading reports). This guide shows you that workflow.

On your phone: capture everything, fast

The phone app exists to make logging so fast you actually do it. Every expense you log within a minute of spending it is one you never have to reconstruct from memory on Sunday night.

  • Log in the checkout line: open Budgey, tap the category, type the amount. About five seconds.
  • Snap receipts instead of typing — point BaoBot at a receipt photo and it reads the store, total, and date, and files it for you.
  • Ask BaoBot to log it: "add $12 lunch at the taco place" works too, and it will pick the right category.
  • Turn on the daily reminder notification if evenings are when you catch up, and the period-ending alert so paydays never sneak up on you.
  • Glance at "Remaining this period" before impulse purchases — it is the whole point of the app, one tap away.

On the web: plan, review, and rebalance

The web app at budgeyapp.com is the same budget with room to think. A bigger screen turns a status check into an actual review — and reviews are where budgets improve.

  • Do a weekly 10-minute review at your desk: scan every category, note which are running hot, and move money between categories so the plan matches reality.
  • Preview your next period before payday and adjust allocations based on what this period taught you.
  • Read your reports and AI insights (Budgey Unlimited) with enough screen to compare periods side by side.
  • Handle imports at the desk: upload bank statements or spreadsheets to BaoBot, and work through your bank-sync Review Inbox in batches.
  • Manage the fiddly things — category colors, notification preferences, shared budget invites — where a keyboard makes it painless.

A rhythm that works

  1. 1

Daily, on your phone (under a minute)

Log spending as it happens, or scan receipts at the end of the day. Check what is left before any unplanned purchase.

  2. 2

Weekly, on the web (about ten minutes)

Review every category, rebalance the ones that are off, skim any Review Inbox items, and leave yourself a note about anything unusual — Budgey keeps notes per period.

  3. 3

Every payday, either screen (two minutes)

Confirm your new period looks right: paycheck amount, category allocations, anything you want to change from last period. If your paycheck was different this time, Budgey nudges you to confirm the real number.

Good to know: Everything syncs instantly, and one subscription covers all platforms — subscribe via the App Store, Google Play, or on the web with a card, and Unlimited is unlocked everywhere you sign in.

Your questions

Is Budgey the same app on web and mobile?+

Yes — it is one budget with the same categories, transactions, goals, and notes everywhere. The iOS and Android apps and the web app at budgeyapp.com stay in sync instantly, so you can log on one device and see it on another right away.

Do I have to pay separately for Budgey on each platform?+

No. One Budgey Unlimited subscription ($10/month or $100/year) covers iOS, Android, and Web, whether you subscribe through the App Store, Google Play, or with a card on the web. The free plan also works on all three.

Can I use Budgey only on my phone, or only on the web?+

Absolutely — plenty of people are phone-only or desktop-only, and Budgey is fully functional either way. The web-plus-mobile workflow is a recommendation, not a requirement: capture is simply faster on a phone, and reviewing is simply nicer on a big screen.

Does Budgey send reminders to log my spending?+

If you want it to. Notifications are opt-in and granular: a daily logging reminder, an alert when your budget period is about to end, goal progress updates, a weekly summary, and a heads-up when a category goes over. Pick the one or two that match how you work.
