Migration guide
Switching from Quicken Simplifi to Budgey
About 20 minutes, most of it automated. Here's the exact path from Quicken Simplifi to a working Budgey budget.
Part 1 — Get your data out of Quicken Simplifi
- 1
On the Simplifi web app, open Transactions from the left panel.
- 2
Select an account, set the date range you want, and export the CSV (export control in the transactions view). Repeat for each spending account you care about.
- 3
Note the category names you actually use. Skip investment registers — Budgey will not import those as a portfolio.
Part 2 — Set up Budgey
- 4
Create your free Budgey account
Sign up at budgeyapp.com or in the iOS/Android app. Onboarding takes about two minutes — BaoBot suggests a starter set of categories, and you can rename them to match the ones you had before.
- 5
Set your pay period
Tell Budgey how you get paid — weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Your budget periods will follow your actual paychecks, which is probably an upgrade over the calendar months your old app forced.
- 6
Upload your export to BaoBot
Open BaoBot and upload your CSV, Excel, or PDF file (file uploads are part of Budgey Unlimited). It reads each transaction's description, amount, and date, matches categories by name, and imports the lot — and any import can be undone with one message.
- 7
Connect your banks (optional, recommended)
With Budgey Unlimited, connect as many banks or cards as you use via Plaid. From then on, new transactions land in your Review Inbox with AI-suggested categories — you approve each one, and your budget stays current without typing.
Switching from Quicken Simplifi: your questions
Is Budgey cheaper than Quicken Simplifi?+
Simplifi’s list price is about $84/year billed annually, often closer to $48 the first year on promo. Budgey is free to start; Unlimited is $10/month or $100/year. Simplifi can be cheaper than Unlimited on promo. Budgey is cheaper if you stay on the free plan, or if you want month-to-month instead of a yearly Quicken bill.
Does Simplifi budget by paycheck like Budgey?+
No. Simplifi is a calendar-month spending plan with a 12-month view. Budgey’s periods are weekly, biweekly, or monthly to match when you actually get paid — that is the main product difference, not the reports.
Does Budgey track investments like Simplifi?+
No. Simplifi includes investment accounts, performance, and net worth. Budgey is spending-first: budgets, transactions, goals, and leftover this period. If the brokerage view is the reason you opened Simplifi, keep it — some people run Simplifi quarterly and Budgey daily.
Can I switch from Quicken Simplifi to Budgey?+
Yes. Export each account’s transactions as CSV from the Simplifi web app, then upload the files to BaoBot. The walkthrough is at budgeyapp.com/switch/from-quicken-simplifi. Reconnect banks in Budgey Unlimited afterward; investment history will not come along.
